The Snow Hill

The Snow Hill will be the Midlands flagship “Places of Change” scheme, a national government funded initiative which seeks to transform the homeless hostel system.

This project for Midland Heart proposes a 20 no. residential unit new build extension to a refurbished building and incorporating a further 68 no. units and Social Enterprise to create a unique community. The Snow Hill offers a unique mixed community in the heart of Birmingham and provides accommodation for people who are moving on from experiences of homelessness and who will be receiving support services.

The residents will be supported on site and given the opportunity to train and work with enterprises such as the on-site coffee bar and the Frost & Snow cupcake bakery.

Inspired by the Snow Hill’s existing canal side mural, the scheme seeks to exploit canalside visual linkages.

The project has just been completed and the first residents are now moving in to this exciting and active place to live.

The project has also just received an award from the WMCCE for the Best Refurbished Building in Birmingham 2013
