West End Village Officially Opened

West End Village, Staffordshire Housing Association's £18 million, state-of-the-art, apartment block off London Road, Stoke was officially opened on Saturday May 28th 2011.

As well as providing accommodation for 120 over-55s, the development is home to new office headquarters for Staffordshire Housing Group, providing jobs in the area and a much needed regeneration boost.

Guest of honour at the opening yesterday, Stoke-on-Trent Central MP Tristram Hunt was in attendance along with Diane Lea, chief executive of Staffordshire Housing Group.

To commemorate the opening, guests were given painted buckets, a packet of oatcake mix and a DVD of the building works recorded by local artist Rob Pointon.

Rob painted the construction as it progressed and those works are now displayed in the foyer. He also created a permanent mural with a 3D image of a canal boat, to symbolise a canal which once ran through the site.
