Carlton Fire Station Officially Opened

Work is now complete on this Community Fire Station in Nottingham with B.K.B.S and was officially opened by the Chair of the Fire Authority, Councillor Darrell Pulk, and Chief Fire Officer Frank Swann.

The concept design was carried out by Focus Consultants, with Hulme Upright acting as executive architects working with Bowmer and Kirkland Building Services from Derby.

The community fire station has a new state-of-the-art training facility, an improved road traffic collision compound where fire crews will train in rescuing people from vehicles, a fully-networked computer system and purpose-designed facilities for public meetings and other events.

The building has been specially-designed to be energy efficient. A green sedum roof will help keep it cool in summer and warmer in winter, as well as delaying the release of rainwater to lessen the impact on drains during flooding. As a result of these measures, the building has been rated ‘Excellent’ under the new Building Research Establishment's Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) for Fire Stations.
